This is a guest post written by the lovely Matt over at World of Matticus. If you don’t read his blog then go subscribe to his feed and then come back, I’ll wait, I promise. Ok, finished bookmarking etc? Here ya go then…

A while ago, I wrote about the different kinds of personalities that every Guild leader needs. One of the characters is the Mom. The player personality of mom goes a little something like this, just in case you’re not aware:

The Mom can instantly sense when something is wrong in the Guild. Her gut feelings are more in tune with the emotions of a player. She knows what to say at the right time. Nothing relieves a tense moment then a calm soothing female voice (that applies in any situation though, really).

Why she’s an asset: She’s able to pry the deepest and darkest thoughts of a player in the Guild. She can silence brushfires with a few tells. She can break the will of even the most devoted gquitter and persuade them to stay one more day. Even though you can’t see it, you can almost see the sad puppy eyes on the screen when she asks you what’s wrong. She’s an excellent sounding board if you need to vent your frustrations because she will actually care.

But not only that!

Although she may not be your average hockey mom or soccer mom, this does not mean her role is any less important. Mom is the kind of player who brings every reagent, potion, and consumable known to man to any raid. If you forget your mana oils, mom’s got your back. If you realize you don’t have any more gold left, mom will slip some gold into your pocket with a wink. Although she doesn’t get up at 5 AM to bust her ass to drive you to games, she’s almost as good.

She is the first person any Guild member goes to when they’re going through relationship problems or girl problems. Don’t even lie. You know I’m right on this. There’s always that one guy whose having problems with his girlfriend who drags himself to officer chat one on one with mom to poor his heart out. Because if it were anyone else in the Guild, he’d gquit and transfer off to avoid the embarrassment. But perhaps the most underlying feature of mom? No matter what we do, she is always there and supportive of us in any way.

Even if we want to quit the Guild.

So the next time you see mom online in your Guild, be sure to give her a /hug and a big thank you for everything she’s done. Count yourself lucky to have one in your Guild at all.

So… you heard it here first, unless you were at TJTV last night, or have come here from Fim’s blog... anyway, it’s my birthday! Woot! So no WoW playing this evening since I’m being all birthdayish and having some girlie friends around to chat to and drink with etc.

I was thinking about what I’d love to get for my birthday WoW-wise, if that was even possible, and this is what I came up with:

  • A better attention span so I could lvl ONE character properly instead of being adhd-like with my making-alts-all-the-time problem >_<
  • More time to do instances (ie a live-in babysitter please!)
  • To see the inside of SSC, The Eye, BT and the Sunwell BEFORE the expansion hits (LMAO cause that’s gonna happen!)
  • Some purty purples, not fussed on which!
  • Maybe some boosts for my alts?

So, nothing particular, but things that would make my wow life a lil better, I think. Anyone know where I can get a live-in sitter? I’m sure that would solve the rest of my problems. Oh, and someone to give me chocolate and peel me grapes would be good. Maybe in the form of Zachary Quinto or Milo Ventmiglia? No? Damn, maybe next year!

  • I have been known to shout LOL when I find something funny.
  • The same goes for ROFL, LMAO and ROFLMAO.
  • I regularly call my husband a N00b and think nothing of it. He is, by the way, a total n00b - melee hunter? STICK WITH YOUR ROGUE HONEY!!
  • I’ve said OMG to my parents more than once.
  • WTF is regularly heard, to the point my son has started copying me. The poor boy is a geek already!
  • STFU is another I’ve picked up since playing WoW.
  • along with I Pwnd Joo! So far the lil dude hasn’t picked this one up but I’m sure he will soon!
  • HAX!!!! Whenever I see anyone cheating or doing something they shouldn’t be able to on their own.
  • and lastly… OMGWTFBBQPWNDKTHXXBAI!!! well, only once or twice and that’s only to other WoW players, I mean come on, I don’t want people to think I’m a complete weirdo right? RIGHT?!

Yes I have actually said these OUT LOUD on pretty regular occasions, except for the last one. I can’t be the only one who says these things can I? What have I forgotten? What are your favourite l33tspeek words?

Ok so I got accepted to a sweet new guild, Strength Through Unity, on thursday or friday last week! Really nice bunch so far, and I even got to go into Kara with them last night (and nabbed some nice loot for my off-spec collection too!). Ooh, some of them even popped by the blog so /wave to the STU peeps (I’m not just saying this cause you could be reading it honest!).

I forgot how damn mana-draining the Nightbane fight can be, I must have used about 3 pots and an innervate on myself (yes I did check the healer’s mana first, jeez even I’m not that much of a noob!), we still one-shotted him, and the other bosses in there. Lets see now, the kill order was Netherspite, Prince, Nightbane, and finished off with Maiden. We did it in just under 2 hours. That never would have happened in the last guild - the RL always spent waaay too much time faffing about with how to do the bosses, things just seemed much more seemless than I’ve seen before. All in all a great experience, although I do need to sort out Vent a bit as I was going from straining to hear the instructions to having my ears bleeding with others talking!

I wonder if the OH will ever join me… we shall see. Although then I won’t have an insider in TBC to keep me updated with any gossip in there, not that he’d ever actually tell me… stubborn sod /sigh.

So, I’m not sure what I’ll do this evening. I have my blogging up to day, well… for today at least, so now’s my chance to go onto WoW and see what damage I can do. I never did get round to trying out PVP on my 19 druid… ;)
Edit: Title props to Matticus and Night cause I was a dumbass and forgot to give this post one /headdesk

ScreenShot_031608_001253.jpegSo Leafi dinged 19 last night (all together now… woot!) and not I’m deliberating whether or not to do some PVP with her for a little while to get some honor up.

On the one hand, any honor and marks are better than none at all, but then again, WSG is the ONLY option, and no cat form yet to prowl around and hide!

Decisions decisions. I guess I might as well give it a go and see how I like it, but then I *could* be leveling to 20 to get the coveted Cat Form. One or two games won’t hurt though I suppose ;)

I’ve actually logged to Softthistle more to play in the last few days than I had in the last 2 weeks or so that I was in my old guild, looking around for a new home is hard though. I DON’T want to raid, I can’t right now because the little dude isn’t sleeping yet (/sigh), but I would like to maybe by the end of the year.

The problem is, most guilds who are advertising themselves are doing so for the raiding and not really just for randoms like me. The more “family” style guilds don’t need to advertise, so I have no idea who they are, and it’s not like I can PUG much with kids to look after as well… not fair to “BRB KIDS” in an instance and I hate having to do it.

So far I’ve seen one that sounds like fun, the raiding hours would be suitable for if/when I could actually raid again, and there are a couple of people in it who I know from way back, so maybe I’ll send them an application and see what happens. Lets face it, the worst that can happen is they say no right?

Yes he has his own character! No he hasn’t died yet, and yes, he is a gnome, a rogue ( I think?). Leetledude is his name. No dings as of yet but he’s just getting used to using the mouse (and of course now we have the mac mouse to get him used to instead /sigh). I’m so proud of my lil dude!

His favourite youtube movie is ROFLMAO, and he tries to sing along. He loves helping me find the baddies to kill (usually followed by “Go mummy GO GO GO!!”), so I figured why not let him have a go on his own character? If I’m lucky he’ll be able to farm me primals by Christmas! :D

I could see me setting up my old PC for him… at least then I’d get some wow time instead of him stealing my seat all the time!

I’m testing out Ecto at the moment to see if it’s worth forking out for. So far I’m pretty impressed. Easy to use, even by my standards, so I’m thinking I’ll be splurging at the end of the month. It just fits me better than MarsEdit does. Each to their own and all that! I’d still rather a WLW for the Mac!

The hubby is away for a few days so I’ll most likely not get a chance to play wow until sunday when he’s back.  On the other hand, what else am I going to do in the evenings while he’s away? Decisions decisions. Maybe I’ll work on the blogroll (yes I know it’s abysmal!) or add a characters page? Something I can leave and pick up again without a repair bill! We shall see…

On tuesday night, after months of not feeling *quite right* in my guild, I finally said my goodbyes and typed in /gquit. It’s been over 2 years since I first joined them and it was tough to finally let go, but I do feel better for it, like a great weight’s off my shoulders. Now I just need to figure out what/where I want to go with my WoW characters.

Softthistle is geared for raiding, but until the little dude starts sleeping through raiding is a no-go, and even then… do I really want to go raiding 3 nights a week? Probably not, I’m not organized enough at the moment! If I was on the US servers I know there are a few places I could easily have transferred to and have friends to bug but, alas, I’m on the EU ones /sigh.

I should have got a screenie of the /gquit, but I didnt’t think about that until after I logged, dammit!

So, anyone on the EU servers want a friendly stalker druid? No? I guess I’ll just stay where I am for now then ;)

I had to respec back to Balance… I just hated not having my huge crits and grinding ability that I do with my lovely boomkin. I’m still going to do the BGs to get some honor up, but as far as the resto-spec thing goes, it’s just not for me. If I was raiding then it would probably be a different story, but as I’m not, it’s just kind of pointless! So my lovely arena partner has joined forces with his bro and they’re owning most of the arenas they do - a much better team! :)
I started (another) druid alt, this time a nelf on my main’s server. Someone I’m going to lvl as feral. I know I have a hordie doing that, but tbh, although she’s lvl 38 (or 39?) at the moment I’ve kind of lost interest as I can’t chat to my friends when I play with her. Unfortunately the guild I was in seems to have disintegrated, so I’ve just lost the urge to play on her.

So… Leafitalon got from lvl 1-14 yesterday - go me! lol I’ve even been doing the quests in darkshore, something I haven’t done since I started my first character 3 years ago. It’s amazing the differences that Blizzard have made to the game in that time. Remembering how difficult it used to be to actually find those damn Buzzboxes… well now it’s as easy as finding a yellow question mark on my minimap. The threshers don’t seem to be as hard-assed as they used to be either, and I still can’t believe they nerfed Hogger as much as they have, although I’ve yet to see that in the flesh - it’s been a looong while!

I wonder how difficult the den mother is these days… or the quest for the mushrooms in that cave in the north.  Off I go to find out!

I gots a new toy on friday!

iMac

A whole 24 inches of WoW goodness! Yay! Well, it will be when I actually get the chance to be online for more  than 15 minutes at a time lol

Apologies for not having updated, I’ve been busy with this thing called Real Life.  Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it sucks, but it’s most definitely not boring ;)
So the 15 min at a time thing means I’ve been making random alts all over the place just, ya know, because I can.  So once I (eventually) get more time on my hands I’ll be levelling (yet another) Nelf Druid on my main’s server.  Almost at lvl 10… can hardly wait for bear form!
